Do I need an appointment or can I just come in anytime?
Yes you will need to book with us and make an appointment. As we are home based we need to manage the number of dogs at our premises. If you prefer you can use our online booking service from hear.
My dog has very sensitive skin what do you use?
At Fluff and Puff we only use all natural shampoos and conditioners. For very sensitive dogs we have a range of mild and medicated shampoos and conditioners.
How often should a dog be washed?
More often than you think. About every two weeks is a general rule of thumb but some dogs lead lives that can mean washing more than once a week. Regardless of how often, our shampoos will prevent skin dryness and fur damage.
My dog doesn’t like other dogs how will he cope?
Being a home based salon, we have very few dog on site at any one time. Let us know your concerns when you book your appointment then you dog can be kept separate from other dogs. Or your appointment can be made to coincide with our quieter times.
How often should I get my dog groomed?
Most dogs need to be clipped approximately every 6 to 8 weeks. Some dogs will need to be groomed more regularly depending on fur type. We can book you next appointment prior to you leaving with your dog.
How long does it take?
We don’t like to rush the grooming of your dog most grooming sessions. We ask for two hours, however if your dog's coat is very matted it may take longer. A small dog does not necessarily mean it will take less time. If we are finished sooner we can call you to let you know.
Can I stay and watch?
We prefer the owner doesn't stay, as most dogs are like children, they settle down once their owner has left. If you to return before we have finished your dog please sit quietly in your car.
What is the best brush/comb for us?
The large majority of long haired dogs benefit from a simple good quality comb. Come in and ask us if you are not sure. The main thing is to get right to the skin with any tool you use, a brush skims over the top when the hair gets longer.
What if my adult dog has never been groomed before?
We are always happy to work slowly with unsure dogs, and make sure it's as least stressful as possible. In the end we will always do what we can, and if the dog is really just stressing out too much we won't push it and force them to accept anything too far beyond their comfort zone. This may mean your dog isn't properly dry (particularly around the face & ears!) but for the sake of your dog we refuse to put them through too much, especially for a new dog, and as long as we've done as much as we can, we will leave it at that. Usually we can build it up over successive appointments, and they get better each time as they get to know what to expect from the whole process.
What if my dog has fleas?
We use a natural flea rinse after the shampoo to help kill the adult fleas on your dog. We can also give your dog Capstar tablet to kill the fleas, this will take around 30 minutes. Please note: This will incur extra costs. We recommend that you follow up with flea treatment on your dog 24-48 hours after the groom and to treat its bedding and environment at home to prevent re-infestation.
What if my dog is very old?
We always work carefully with all dogs, but even more so with older dogs. Many old dogs cannot stay standing for long periods of time so we let the dog rest and nap and groom while they rest. We are always happy to 'do what we can' with older dogs. We will never force any dog to do more than they are able, and that goes for all dogs of any age.
Why do you need to wash my dog before clipping?
We need to wash the dog before clipping to remove any dust and oils from the coat. This ensures that we are able to get a nice even cut to the fur. Clipper and scissor blades will blunt faster from any dust and oils within the fur making for a poor groomed look.
